Religious arguments? Is it Christmas already?

Actually, what WOULD be the Hylian equivalent? Hylia did sacrifice herself so... Happy Hyliamas?

EDIT: No wait... a day every season representing the Goddesses.

Spring: Farore, bringing life.
Summer: Din, bringing heat.
Autumn: Nayru, bringing conclusion.
Winter: Hylia, bringing death (her own) to bring life for Spring.

Sorry, my love of world building got to me for a second |D

@Instrutilus: Quit reading my mind.

In the next chapter, the spring festival that's taking place is also totally a Farore festival! And Din and summer just naturally go together.

Though I didn't consider that about Nayru and Hylia, but it'd work and make sense. But I'm kinda on the fence about whether or not I want Hylia in this comic, because in OoT and TP, we only had the three Golden Goddesses. And this comic is really strongly based on those two games, in regards to how Hyrule is set up.

But we'll see!

Right now, the comic only takes place from February to (hopefully) October, so I might not even have to fuss with figuring out a winter holiday. ...not that it wouldn't be fun.

@Mahira: Neva!... oh wow it's busy in here.

Indeed. Nayru's Autumn brings a conclusion, the logical conclusion of life and sets up for the return of it, during Spring. A circle, the perfect shape.

I thought I showed you that Hylia might have been present in Ocarina of Time, just cameoing a la Adventure of Link but present? :O

*chanting* Winter holiday, winter holiday, winter holiday!

@Instrutilus: I think I remember you showing me something like that, but I just can't quite remember. I'll think of it; it sounds interesting (and would make sense in several respects).

I wish! There's little I love more than Christmas/winter holiday-themed things... maybe I could just do a little timeskip so we CAN get to winter again in the comic...

But at least with the comic going into autumn, I can pander to all the Halloween lovers.
I don't know how it is over there, but many Americans are INTENSE about their autumn/Halloween love. It goes so much further than pumpkin spice lattes.

@Mahira: I'll reshow you next you're on Discord ^^ I look forward to seeing you implement it :3

You could just have Link explain why he's so fond of Ilia by having her give him his first ever...

Christmas - Christ's Mass - Cristes Maesse - Maesse means Dismissal...

Hylia's Mass? No... Hylia's Stand? As in her stand against Demise? Hylia BĂdsteall? Hyrule, Hytopia, Hylian, Hy- + stall? Hystall Holiday, maybe?

Sorry, sidetracked, perhaps you could have him reveal Ilia gave him his first ever Hystall present (his scarf), hence his determination to marry her?

Eh, we like trick or treating, but my village hasn't been in the Halloween mood these past few years. I do love me some Halloween Tree movie, though :3 What do you intend to call the holiday? I would imagine Nayru something... Donum means gift in Latin, Nayrudon, Nayru's Gift/Nayru's Offering? A day to celebrate the offering of law and remember the passed as a rule of that law?

Sorry, I'll stop ^^;

@Instrutilus: Grazie!

Aww that'd be sweet. And also totally possible! The context of her giving him the scarf is already settled in the Zine BUT there's still potential here. Hmm...

While the word "BĂdsteall" is super cool, "Hystall" makes me think of the word "Heist". ...which actually isn't a problem. She was kind stealing victory from right under Demise's nose in the end there with Link's help.

I have never heard of the Halloween Tree movie, BUT it has Leonard Nimoy and RAY BRADBURY's voices so apparently I need to watch it this Halloween.

Maybe if the idea of a festival of law was focused on the laws separating life and death, that'd give me some room to include gratuitous Halloween-esque imagery...
Of course, this will also mean developing ideas for how Hyrule views/treats the dead and what rituals they have, what relationship (if any) they see as having with the dead or their ancestors, etc.

Not lying, it's going to be fun to figure out :)

And you're fine! I needed to brainstorm about these things sooner than later. And the name ideas are super helpful---I'm rubbish at figuring out names for things (thus why the town they'll be going to next in the comic is called "Lake Town"...)

@Mahira: Curses, I got here too late...

*bursts into a glorious blaze of hellfire*

Indeed, though you could also go with Hystell if you think the Heist thing might be a problem :P

Oh yeah, it's an oldie, animation's okay (Direct-to-Telly movie), but it's one of those I've grown up with. Nostalgia... also that Cathedral scene <3

*glances at the masks on the faces of ReDeads in OoT* ...ReDeads =_=;

Well, Gibdos and ReDeads (if you don't just write them off as monsters that spawn from Ganondorf's magic.) kinda give us a bit of a look. There's a burial mask involved, though Gibdos are a bit more tricky since only OoT and MM had them tied to ReDeads (they usually become Stalfos). Perhaps the masks are to try and prevent angry spirits from possessing the body (which they believe lead to Stals)? But that's entirely up to you to use or not ^^

I've always found looking up other languages is a good way to get some names going, as well as googing a name description for actual places. And to be fair, we do have a village called Lakeside over here in England, over in the Lake District.

You could also write a small history for the place and name it from that. I live in a town with a local legend on how it got it's name (I'll also tell you that on Discord :P), so perhaps something like Zorastrod (Gebolstrod - Guarded/Defended/Supported, Zora Defended Town essentially), with a local history that during a war, the Zora defended the town from waterside invasion to the last man, and the town was named in their honour?

@Instrutilus: Hystell could work! And I'll have to keep it in mind.

So putting the masks on people to prevent spirit possession of bodies is kind of like how corpses' heads were cut off to prevent vampires?
Yeah I can see that. Interesting...

That makes sense and having a history for the place to come up with a name is a good idea!

You're good with all this world-building stuff; are you a dungeon master for DnD campaigns?

@Mahira: Indeed. Which kinda opposes it to Majora's Mask, where you wear masks to attain their spirit :L

Nope. Played one game as a player and none since. I'm just Aspergic :P
May 24th, 2019, 8:19 am
@Instrutilus: Oooh fun contrast! Which would totally work since Majora's Mask-related things pop up all throughout this story. Potential there...

You could probably be a dungeon master if you ever wanted to though! (And if the nerd scene over there is anything like it is over here, that'd make you immensely popular. Good dungeon masters are hard to find!)

@Mahira: Indeed :3 I look forward to seeing how things go :D

(And how many MM references I can see, since it's my favourite and all ;P)

I might look into it :3 Though I'll look to smaller stuffs first, get some experience down for DMing. ^^

Oi, Mahira! :D We just got on each others similar tab somehow (or at least I just noticed)! Maybe I'll catch up to you on readers some day.
May 23rd, 2019, 12:14 pm
@artofjoe: Awesome! :) Though I gotta say, how the number of readers works is quite a mystery, because over the past two months it has fluctuated back and forth and etc. more than makes much sense.

(Though I'll be keeping track of it for the rest of the year and see if that clears up anything... probably not though)
May 23rd, 2019, 7:07 pm
@Mahira: Oh yeah, I meant to say fans. Readers are kinda weird, yeah.
